Last week was a whirlwind of networking, learning, and celebrating across a series of impactful events. I value every opportunity for connection, both professional and personal, and this past week offered that in spades.
Here’s a glimpse into my jam-packed schedule:
Celebrating 20 Years of Innovation at the GEOINT Symposium 2024
The 2024 GEOINT Symposium is the flagship event presented by the US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF). 2024 is the 20th anniversary for USGIF, a milestone of innovation and collaboration in the geospatial intelligence sector. Attending this event is a homecoming of sorts, and always a highlight for me. Offering insights into the latest technologies and strategies in geospatial intelligence - this year the symposium was particularly poignant, reflecting on two decades of advancements that have shaped our national security and beyond. The discussions were forward-thinking and deeply engaging, providing valuable insights into the future of geospatial intelligence “from seabed to space” as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency would say.
Insights and Inspirations at SOF Week 2024
After two and a half days in Orlando, I headed across the state of Florida to Tampa to attend SOF Week 2024. SOF Week is an event that delves into the critical role of special operations forces in our national defense strategy. Being an international year for the conference, the week was filled with tactical demonstrations and in-depth panels that emphasized the importance of cutting-edge technologies and strategies. Networking with defense experts and technology innovators offered a plethora of new perspectives and potential collaborative opportunities for our consultancy.
Leading the Charge at the Women In Technology Washington DC Leadership Awards 2024
One of the most personally rewarding experiences last week was chairing the Women In Technology (WIT) Washington D.C. 25th annual Leadership Awards. This year, I had the honor of hosting a fireside chat with the remarkable Toni Townes-Whitley, CEO of SAIC who was our inaugural Lifetime Achievement Awardee. Toni’s insights on leadership, innovation, and the importance of diversity in technology sectors were not only inspiring but resonated deeply with my own values and the ethos of Collision Points Consulting.
Running for a Cause: Share Your Strength 5K in Danville, KY
To cap off the week, I returned to my hometown of Danville, KY, to participate in the Share Your Strength 5K. This event is close to my heart, as it supports my mom, Jan Sheffield’s recovery journey. The community’s turnout and spirit were overwhelming, and every step in the race was a reminder of the strength we draw from one another. Being able to attend this event was a meaningful way to connect with my roots and support a cause that directly impacts my family. I’m beyond grateful to the community of Danville, KY and the special group of friends who provide constant support to my mother and stepfather.
The Power of Connection
This past week reinforced my belief in the power of networking and collaboration. Each event was a reminder of how interconnected our challenges and solutions are, whether discussing national security at the GEOINT Symposium & SOF Week or promoting diversity in technology at the WIT Awards to the support of a community to ensure that we can keep working towards our goals.
I am grateful for the many connections made and the insights gained. These experiences not only enrich my work at Collision Points Consulting but also reinforce the fundamental value of coming together to share knowledge and support one another.
As I look forward to the opportunities that these new relationships and insights will bring, I am reminded that in the bustling world of consulting, taking the time to connect with others is not just beneficial—it's essential.
